THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (FEMA) SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM [DEADLINE: TOMORROW – MARCH 14, 2014]

FEMA will be recruiting students from a wide variety of disciplines for summer internship opportunities throughout the Agency.  The vacancy announcement will be posted on USAJOBS

Where: Positions are available in multiple locations, including Washington, DC, and FEMA Regional Offices across the country

When: May 1, 2014 – September 30, 2014 (although some students may start and end their internships at different times and some offices may elect to extend positions beyond September 30th)

Requirements: The basic qualifications for an intern appointment have been predetermined by the Office of Personal Management (OPM):

  • Available to current students in an accredited professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate
  • Interns may be hired on a temporary or indefinite basis (until completion of degree requirements) and may work either part- or full-time; interns are paid
  • Openings for intern positions will be posted on USAJOBS @ usajobs.gov/StudentsAndGrads (veterans’ preference applies)
  • If conversion potential is specified in the job opportunity announcement, interns may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years) after successful completion of the program. Conversion is not guaranteed. To be eligible for conversion, interns must:
    • Complete at least 640 hours of work experience through the Internship Program;
    • Complete their degree or certificate requirements;
    • Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the intern will be converted;
    • Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant Agreement; and
    • Perform their job successfully

FOREIGN SERVICE CONSULAR ADJUDICATORS (PORTUGUESE) [DEADLINE: MARCH 21, 2014]

The United States Department of State is now hiring limited non-career appointment (LNA) Consular adjudicators.

*PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will only be able to apply once a year.

Discover how your customer service and language skills can help you effectively communicate with foreign nationals about travel to the U.S.  Use your Portuguese language skills as a Consular Adjudicator and contribute to a more democratic, secure and prosperous world.  With Brazil growing at a rapid pace, the U.S. Department of State needs American citizens, with fluency in Portuguese to work as limited non-career appointment (LNA) Consular Adjudicators at high-volume posts.

As a Consular Adjudicator, you will use your exceptional customer-service, interpersonal and communication skills to make sound judgments about foreign nationals who want to travel to the U.S.

Through conducting one-on-one interviews and reviewing supporting documentation, you will determine who meets the requirements for entry into the U.S.  In this critical border security function, you are on the front lines of preventing fraud, combating trafficking in persons and protecting U.S. borders.  You may have additional duties including service to American citizens abroad and general assistance to U.S. Embassy and Consulate activities.

Who: U.S. citizens with fluency in Portuguese

Where: High volume posts in Brazil

When: Initially, these appointments are for a period of 18 months, and then renewable for up to 5 years, based on satisfactory performance and the needs of the Foreign Service.

The Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection/Economic Crimes Division seeks interns who are eager to work collaboratively on a team of attorneys and investigators to prosecute consumer fraud through agency investigations and civil litigation in Florida state courts.
