WRITING COMPETITION update:

INTA 2021 LADAS MEMORIAL AWARD COMPETITION [DEADLINE: MAR. 1, 2021]

Sponsored by the law firm of Ladas & Parry LLP, the Ladas Memorial Award is an annual international competition that is open to both students and professionals. It was established in memory of the outstanding practitioner and author, Stephen P. Ladas. Winners will be announced in early April 2021.

Topic: Subject of the paper must be trademark law or a matter that directly relates to, or affects, trademarks

Awards: INTA will award the authors of the top two papers in the student category and the top paper in the professional category

  • The student category winners will each receive US $1,250 and a complimentary registration to the 2021 Annual Meeting
  • The professional category winner will receive a complimentary registration to the 2021 Annual Meeting and a set of Stephen P. Ladas’s three-volume treatise, PatentsTrademarks, and Related Rights

Winning papers will also be considered for possible publication in The Trademark Reporter (TMR), INTA’s legal journal; publication will be subject to the TMR Committee’s editorial review and approval

SCHOLARSHIP update:

RACHEL KREVANS SCHOLARSHIP [DEADLINE: MAR. 15, 2021]

ChIPs is a nonprofit organization that advances and connects women in technology, law and policy. We seek to accelerate innovation through diversity of thought, participation and engagement. In this vein, we have announced our third annual Rachel Krevans Scholarship. The scholarship is for rising third year U.S. law students and encourages women to pursue IP law.

Rachel Krevans was a renowned intellectual property litigator at Morrison & Foerster LLP whose career spanned nearly three decades of groundbreaking trials and high-profile patent disputes. She was repeatedly recognized as a top IP litigator and a leader in tech law. She was passionately dedicated to the advancement, promotion and retention of women in tech and IP fields.  Rachel served on the ChIPs Law Firm Advisory Board at ChIPs and was inducted into the ChIPs Hall of Fame in 2014.

Eligibility: To qualify for the Rachel Krevans Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Identify as a woman
  • Be enrolled at a U.S. law school entering her third or subsequent year
  • Be academically qualified
  • Demonstrate commitment to advancing and connecting women in technology, law and policy
  • Demonstrate an interest in pursuing IP

Award: Two awards of $5,000 each will be awarded to students entering their third or subsequent year of law school to be used toward tuition

HOLLAND & KNIGHT PRESENTS NAVIGATING TECH IN THE LAW [MAR. 3-4, 2021]

Technology overlaps with many industries, and the legal world is no exception. Emerging technologies are rapidly transforming both the substance and practice of law in almost every area, including business law, financial services, intellectual property and litigation. As technology continues to evolve, fluency in key technological trends is now more important than ever, as it can inform decisions about what practice areas and specialties are positioned to evolve with these trends and help with mapping out a place within the landscape.

Holland & Knight invites Class of 2023 law students to join an informational series on the intersection of law and technology. Our presentations will discuss legal careers in tech, current tech trends in major practice areas and how some Holland & Knight attorneys have charted various paths in the tech space. In addition, 1L students interested in pursuing a career in tech are encouraged to attend.

TITANS OF TRIAL SPEAKERS – CROSS EXAMINATION [MAR. 3, 2021]
