2014-15 WOMEN & JUSTICE FELLOWSHIP [DEADLINE: MAY 1, 2014]
The Avon Global Center for Women & Justice at Cornell Law School is seeking applications for its 2014-15 Women and Justice Fellowship. The Fellow will play an integral role in executing and further developing the Center’s initiatives.
The Center works with judges, legal practitioners, civil society advocates, and other stakeholders in an effort to end gender-based violence. The Center’s initiatives focus on advancing access to justice and the international rule of law, with an emphasis on defending the human rights of women and girls.
This fellowship offers varied experience in the areas of international human rights and gender justice, including legal research, clinical teaching, and project management. In addition to working with the Center team, the Fellow will interact with students, faculty, judges, and advocates from diverse countries, cultures, and backgrounds. Cornell Law School provides an intellectually engaging work atmosphere, located in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York State.
When: August 2014 (1 year – reappointment for a second term is possible)
Requirements: (1.) JD or LLM, and (2.) at least 2 years of relevant professional work experience preferred
Skills: (1.) Strong research, writing and editing skills, (2.) exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, (3.) ability to manage a diverse range of projects and initiatives, and (4.) experience in international legal research and in website and/or database management helpful

EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS 2013-2014 AMERICORPS JD PROGRAM – AMERICORPS JD PROGRAM [DEADLINE EXTENDED: MAY 2, 2014 AT 5 P.M. EST]
As part of the 2013-2014 AmeriCorps JD Program, 360 members will:
- Gain first-hand experience and legal skills in areas such as client intake, representation and legal research and writing;
- Complete at least 300 hours of service;
- Earn a $1,175 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award voucher that can be used to pay current educational expenses or qualified student loans;
- Have access to Equal Justice Works’ network of alumni, experience and expertise as the nation’s largest provider of public interest opportunities for law students and attorneys;

EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS: NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE (NAC) [DEADLINE: MAY 2, 2014 AT 11:59 P.M. EDT]

FAMILY VIOLENCE LITIGATION & IMMIGRATION PROJECT FELLOW [DEADLINE: MAY 9, 2014]
Albany Law School’s Law Clinic & Justice Center seeks a Fellow to provide legal advocacy services to Family Violence Litigation Clinic & Immigration Project clients and perform other related duties pursuant to grants and contracts. The Family Violence Litigation Clinic & Immigration Project teaches law students practical lawyering skills in the context of Family Court and immigration proceedings at which students represent individuals who have been victimized by violence by intimate partners or family members. Additionally, the Fellow will assist the Director with research and analysis on long-term projects.
Who: Qualified candidates will possess a JD and admission to the NY State Bar or expected admission by January 2015

Trainee Program: The company has an in-house Legal & Government Affairs team that has developed a Trainee Program designed for the mutual benefit of the participants and the company. This program is intended to provide trainees with the opportunity of gaining experience in jobs directly related to their LLM major area of study. The trainees will also be able to apply what they have learned to real work situations while building on their skills. In turn, the company will educate participants on its policies; will assign them low cost, low risk tasks, where participants are expected to apply knowledge based on the training received. Furthermore, trainees are expected to be curious, inquisitive and willing to share an outside-in perspective with the company. U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE VOLUNTEER LEGAL INTERNSHIP/EXTERNSHIP PROGRAM [SPRING DEADLINE: JULY 21 – AUGUST 29, 2014]
The U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division, Office of Immigration Litigation (OIL), Appellate Section, and Trial Attorney/Recruitment, Hiring & Mentoring Coordinator, Ms. Terri Leon-Benner, announce this Spring 2015 Volunteer Legal Internship/Externship Program.
OIL coordinates Federal immigration litigation nationwide, and has both an appellate and a district court section. OIL Appellate defends the administrative decisions of the Board of Immigration Appeals, involving removal orders and denials of applications for relief before the Federal Courts of Appeals. OIL Appellate attorneys handle removal cases in the Courts of Appeals, and support the Office of the Solicitor General’s immigration litigation efforts in the United States Supreme Court. OIL Appellate provides advice and counsel to United States Attorneys’ offices prosecuting criminal immigration issues that overlap with the office’s civil litigation. OIL Appellate provides support and counsel to all federal agencies involved in the admission, regulation, and removal of aliens under our immigration and nationality statutes, as well as related areas of border enforcement and national security, and participates in public outreach activities, including training, conferences, and publications. OIL Appellate has approximately 260 attorneys and 100 support staff and handles approximately thirty percent of the Civil Division’s caseload.
Assignments: Students will be assigned to one of OIL’s litigation teams where they will: draft appellate briefs in asylum and cancellation of removal cases and dispositive motions; write case summaries for weekly litigation reports; attend “First Cuts” meetings; and conduct legal research and prepare memoranda.

THE HAGUE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROJECT
The History of The Hague Domestic Violence Project: Assistant Dean Sudha Shetty and Social Welfare Dean Jeffrey Edleson, two key participants in this Project, worked together years ago on a Hague Convention case where domestic violence was an issue. The myriad issues that arose out of that experience inspired Sudha to create The Hague Domestic Violence Project. First started at Seattle University School of Law’s Access to Justice Institute, the project moved to the University of Minnesota in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Washington and now resides at Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy. Since 2003, the goal of this project has been to find a way to solidify domestic violence as an exception to the otherwise required return of a child to his or her country of habitual residence under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.
