THE PEGGY BROWNING FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM [DEADLINE: JANUARY 17, 2014]

A program for law students who dedicate aim to dedicate their summer to advancing the cause of workers’ rights by working for labor unions, worker centers, the U.S. Department of Labor, union-side law firms and other nonprofit organizations.  Students will receive a stipend of $5,000.  [For additional details, check Friday, January 10 Blog Post and view at Symplicity]

 

THE BRISTOL-MYERS SQUIBB – LAW DEPARTMENT 2014 DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION INTERNSHIP PROGRAM [DEADLINE: JANUARY 17, 2014]

Paid summer internship program for law students who are interested in experiencing the practice of law within a corporate law department.  Assignments will vary by department, but are expected to include areas of compliance and legal practice, including regulatory, corporate/transactional, employment/privacy, intellectual property, and litigation.  Up to 8 qualified students will be placed in various areas of Bristol-Myers Squibb Law and Compliance & Ethics Departments.  Students will receive a stipend of $8,000.  [For additional details, check Friday, January 10 Blog Post and view at Symplicity]

 

THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE (NAACP) OFFICE OF THE GENERAL COUNSEL – 2014 LAW FELLOW PROGRAM [DEADLINE: JANUARY 21, 2014]

Students selected will (1.) work with civil rights attorneys on relevant issues concerning economic justice, education, housing, voting rights, and environmental justice, (2.) perform case investigation and assist with emerging litigation and administrative complaints, (3.) attend the NAACP National Convention and Continuing Legal Education Seminar in Las Vegas, Nevada, (4.) examine and evaluate citizen complaints of civil rights violations, and (5.) interact with civil rights leaders and attorneys.  A stipend of $6,000 paid bi-weekly will be awarded to offset living and travel expenses.  [For additional details, check Friday, January 10 Blog Post and view at Symplicity]

 

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN LAWYERS (NAWL) – PRUDENTIAL 2014 SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM [DEADLINE: JANUARY 24, 2014 AT 5:00 P.M. EST]

NAWL is partnering with Prudential Financial, Inc. to provide a meaningful summer internship opportunity to a highly-motivated first-year law student and the selected student will be provided a stipend of approximately $10,000.  Finalist shall be selected and notified on or about March 17, 2014.  [For additional details, check Friday, January 10 Blog Post and view at Symplicity]

 

WALMART LEGAL SUMMER INTERNSHIP [DEADLINE: JANUARY 31, 2014]

As an intern with The Walmart Legal Department (WMLD), the student will be able to apply the procedures and processes he/she has studied in law school in the in-house legal department of a Fortune 100 company.  The program is designed to expose law students to different substantive areas of the law in a corporate retail setting.  During the summer internship, the student may do any of the following among other opportunities: Review and draft non-disclosure agreements, research various trademarks to identify potential infringements, and assist with IP litigation management.  The program also offers students an executive speaker series, a corporate mentor, subsidized housing and relocation, and a generous monthly stipend.

Who: Full-time 2Ls and 3Ls in good standing

GPA: 2.5 or higher (and must have earned an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher)

ASIAN AMERICAN LEGAL DEFENSE AND EDUCATION FUND (AALDEF) 2014 SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM [DEADLINE: JANUARY 31, 2014]

AALDEF internships for the summer of 2014 are available in the following program areas: Anti-Trafficking Initiative, Community Health Care Initiative, Economic Justice for Workers, Educational Equity, Housing Justice Project, Immigrant Access to Justice, and Voting Rights.  Interns will work full time and are supervised by attorneys in specific program areas.  Interns will attend weekly brown bag lectures on a range of public interest legal topics along with interns from other legal defense funds and civil rights groups.  The position is unpaid, however, in previous years many AALDEF interns have been successful at securing independent funding.  Academic credit can be arranged.

When: 10-week summer program (approximately June 2, 2014 – August 8, 2014)

CENTRAL FLORIDA ASSOCIATION FOR WOMEN LAWYERS – 2013-2014 BAR STUDY SCHOLARSHIP [DEADLINE: POSTMARKED BY MARCH 28, 2014]

The goal of the scholarship is to promote the CFAWL mission, while helping the recipient during his/her study for the Florida Bar Exam.  The scholarship is funded by the generous donations of CFAWL members and friends and by CFAWL fundraising efforts.  The recipient will be notified no later than April 26, 2014.  The recipient will be invited to attend the May 2, 2014 CFAWL luncheon in Orlando, Florida, where the recipient will be introduced.  The award of a $1,000 scholarship will be paid to the recipient after his/her law school graduation, in June 2014.

EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS 2013-2014 AMERICORPS JD PROGRAM – AMERICORPS JD CIVIL LEGAL CORPS [DEADLINE: APRIL 15, 2014]

The Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps JD Program provides law students with the chance to serve a qualifying host organization of their choosing.  AmeriCorps JD members expand the delivery of critically needed legal assistance in low-income and underserved communities across the country for veterans, military families, disaster victims, and other vulnerable populations.  To participate in the AmeriCorps JD Civil Legal Corps, the project can focus on a variety of legal issues, but will involve working on a Veterans Toolkit for at least 20% of the required 300 hours of service (at least 60 hours).

LEADERSHIP COUNCIL ON LEGAL DIVERSITY (LCLD) – 1L LCLD SCHOLARS PROGRAM

The Program offers 1Ls from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to spend a summer working side-by-side with attorneys from LCLD Member organizations.  One of the many networking opportunities includes a Retreat in Dallas, TX on June 5-7, 2014.  The Program also provide mentoring opportunities where the Scholar will be paired with a LCLD Mentor attorney and the Mentor is available to the Scholar for at least one year, with a potential for the relationship to continue throughout law school.

Who: 1Ls in good standing

Application process: Candidates must apply directly to their desired LCLD Member firms and corporations.  Each Member organization will independently identify, select, and hire its 1L LCLD Scholar(s).
