MS. JD – 2016 WRITERS IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM [DEADLINE: NOV. 1, 2015]

LSATs, law school applications, 60-hour work weeks. Sometimes we all need a creative outlet. Started in 2010, the Writers in Residence are a select group of pre-law, current law students, and legal professionals who contribute monthly articles to the Ms. JD blog on a topic of their choosing. Applicants will be notified as to whether they have been selected to participate by Monday, Dec. 7, 2015.

Requirements:

Submission components: (1) Name; (2) email; (3) telephone #; (4) law school you attend/graduated from; (5) current occupation (i.e. law student; associate; etc.); (6) proposed column title (approximately 50 characters or less); (7) description of column idea (100-300 words); (8) list of any relevant writing experience; and (9) short writing sample (need not be legal)

ELECTRONIC PRIVACY INFORMATION CENTER (EPIC) – 2016 LAW FELLOWSHIP [DEADLINE: NOV. 2, 2015]

EPIC is a leading privacy and civil liberties organization, based in Washington, D.C., working to protect the public interest and to promote the Public Voice in decisions concerning the future of the Internet. EPIC pursues public interest litigation, conducts public education, testifies in Congress, organizes conferences, coordinates grassroots advocacy, and publishes books, reports, and an online newsletter. The EPIC Law Fellow will receive an annual salary of $51,500 along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Who: J.D. before September 2016

When: 1-year position to begin September 2016

Requirements:

TECHCONGRESS CONGRESSIONAL INNOVATION FELLOWSHIP [DEADLINE: NOV. 2, 2015]
The Congressional Innovation Fellowship is a nine-month policymaking residency on Capitol Hill. Fellows work directly for Members of Congress, Congressional Committees or Congressional Support Agencies to inform technology policymaking and create a community of technology leaders that understand the challenges of government.

The Congressional Innovation Fellowship is a project of TechCongress and the New America Foundation’s Open Technology Institute and made possible in part by a philanthropic seed investment from entrepreneur and investor Reid Hoffman.

WRITING COMPETITION update:

LOGO_INTAINTA: LADAS MEMORIAL AWARD COMPETITION [DEADLINE: JAN. 8, 2016]

The International Trademark Association (INTA) 2016 Ladas Memorial Award Competition is now open to students, professors and practitioners. Sponsored by the law firm of Ladas & Parry LLP, the Ladas Competition was established in memory of outstanding practitioner and author, Stephen P. Ladas. The award is presented every year for the best student and professional paper on trademark law or a matter that directly relates to or affects trademarks.

 

Eligibility:

  • Student Category: Eligible students must be enrolled as either full- or part-time law or graduate students. For students outside the United States, university enrollment is acceptable. The top 2 papers will be selected as award recipients.
  • Professional Category: Authors may be legal practitioners, business professionals and/or academics. No restrictions apply regarding level of experience or years in practice.

Topic: A paper on trademark law or a matter that directly relates to, or affects, trademarks

Awards: Winners will be announced in early March 2016.

  • The student category winners will each receive U.S. $2,500 and a complimentary registration to the 2016 Annual Meeting.
  • The professional category winner will receive a complimentary registration to the 2016 Annual Meeting and a set of Stephen P. Ladas’s three-volume treatise, Patents, Trademarks, and Related Rights.
  • The winning papers will be considered for possible Publication in The Trademark Reporter (TMR), INTA’s legal journal. Publication will be subject to the TMR Committee’s editorial review and approval.

EJW: VIRTUAL CONFERENCE AND CAREER FAIR [TOMORROW: OCT. 30, 2015]

Equal Justice Works is excited to pilot a virtual event to connect law students seeking public interest opportunities with employers recruiting dedicated students to support the great work they are doing. EJW has had great success with their annual Conference and Career Fair held in the Washington, D.C. area in October – the largest national public interest legal career fair. While this event has attracted employers and law students from across the country for twenty years, there are students and employers who are unable to attend the in-person event due to time and/or financial constraints.

His goal is to provide an opportunity for law students to get involved and gain hands-on experience within this fascinating practice field. Wayne Cox, Vice Chair of an ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law committee called the Law Student Action Group invites our FIU Law students to apply to the Law Student Reporters Program. Participants selected for the Program are given complimentary registration to the ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law’s 31st Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference this coming April in Bethesda, Maryland. During the Conference, students attend the Section’s premier CLE programs and network with intellectual property law attorneys both from across the nation and around the world while reporting on the content of the CLE programming via social media. This is a great opportunity for you to distinguish yourselves in the area of intellectual property law.
