RESEARCH ASSISTANT FOR PROFESSOR TRAVIS [DEADLINE: UNTIL POSITION FILLED]

Professor Hannibal Travis is looking for a Research Assistant with strong editing and writing credentials for research on federal litigation, federal legislation, and federal regulation, copyright law.

Who: 1Ls, 2Ls, 3Ls, and 4Ls

When: Position will require 4-10 hours per week to begin this Summer 2014 semester with the possibility to continue next Fall 2014 semester

CABA PRO BONO PROJECT – VOLUNTEER PRO BONO OPPORTUNITIES

The CABA Pro Bono Project has several pro bono opportunities available, APPROVED for FIU Law pro bono hours:

  • Divorce Clinic: Tuesday, May 27, 2014 (and the last Tuesday of every month) @ 6pm – 8pm @ Legal Services of Greater Miami, 3000 Biscayne Blvd., Suite 500. Volunteers needed to help prepare pro se simple divorce papers. All students will be supervised by trained attorneys and Lesley Mendoza, Executive Director will be there to answer all questions that come up.
  • Citizenship Workshop: Saturday, May 31, 2014 @ 10am – 2pm. Volunteers needed to help fill out citizenship applications. Other citizenship workshops scheduled throughout the year.
  • Guardian ad Litems (GALs): In need of GALs, who serve as the eyes and ears of the court in cases pending before the DV judges. You conduct an investigation as to what goes on in the life of the child that you are assigned (child with a case pending in front of a DV judge) and provide the court with recommendations.

DHS/ICE/OPLA FALL 2014 INTERNSHIP [DEADLINE: JUNE 2, 2014]

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is about to start interviewing for the Fall 2014 internship.

Requirements: (1.) Must be a U.S citizen, and (2.) must be able to pass a FBI background check

GPA: Must be in the top 50% of the class (no Ds or Fs on transcript)

THE CITY OF MIAMI OFFICE OF CITY ATTORNEY – LEGAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM [DEADLINE: JUNE 1-6, 2014]

The Office of the City Attorney offers an excellent opportunity for law students to participate as interns during the Fall, Spring, and Summer Semesters. This is an unparalleled opportunity to explore a career in the challenging practice of municipal law. Students will gain practical legal experience by working closely with attorney supervisors on a variety of substantive legal matters including civil litigation, land use, labor and employment, commercial and general government law. Students will be expected to comply with their school’s clinical program guidelines.

Deadlines: During the first week of October for Spring, the first week of April for Summer, and the first week of June for Fall.
