CIVIL RIGHTS EDUCATION AND ENFORCEMENT CENTER (CREEC) – FIRST ANNUAL FELLOWSHIP [DEADLINE: DEC. 31, 2016]

CREEC is civil rights non-profit that specializes in high impact litigation and advocacy fighting all forms of exclusion and discrimination in order to obtain effective and enduring systemic reforms that redeem the promise of fairness embodied in our nation’s civil rights laws. The CREEC Fellowship is an opportunity for a recent law school graduate, law clerk, or returning lawyer to contribute creatively to the work of a small civil rights non-profit staffed by lawyers with decades of experience in civil rights advocacy and litigation in a broad range of areas. The Fellow will also work with grassroots groups and co-counsel at partner public interest and private pro bono law firms, and gain experience in all phases of CREEC’s work, including advocacy, litigation, public education and outreach, investigations, brainstorming, and playing with the office dogs. The Fellowship will pay $55,000 plus health insurance, retirement plan, and free parking.

Who: Member in good standing of a state bar or planning to take the bar/reinstate your license before you start

CREEC particularly encourages applications from people who fall into these (and other) often-overlooked groups:

  • People who have experienced discrimination or are members of groups protected by our civil rights laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, religion, national origin, disability, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, and age;
  • First generation college graduates;
  • Returning lawyers, that is, lawyers who did something else for a while but want to dust off their license and learn how to enforce civil rights protections;
  • Veterans or military service members; or
  • Applicants with substantive ideas for cases or programs that will advance CREEC’s mission.

ANIMAL LEGAL DEFENSE FUND (ALDF) – ANIMAL LAW INSTITUTE LITIGATION FELLOWSHIP [DEADLINE: JAN. 1, 2017]

The ALDF is extremely pleased to announce a new Litigation Fellowship with the ALDF Animal Law Institute, a first-of-its-kind program that, by training classes of promising litigators in strategic impact litigation, will further ALDF’s mission to protect the lives and advance the interests of all animals.

The Fellow will learn to develop state and federal strategic impact litigation that betters the lives and legal status of animals. The Fellow will operate as part of a team, but will ultimately be responsible for the innovation and success of his or her projects while developing litigation skills. The primary focus of the fellowships is on civil animal law issues, but all Fellows will be exposed to criminal anti-cruelty cases as well. The position offers a salary of $55,000 annually, full medical and dental benefits, and a casual office environment, including companion animals.

Who: The model applicants must have earned a JD within the past 3 years, excelled in school, earned strong work references, and have a sincere and proven interest in animal protection.

Where: ALDF headquarters – Cotati, CA

When: Begins in Fall 2017 lasting roughly 2 years
