H.E.L.P. – MIAMI RECRUITMENT MEETING [APRIL 1, 2015]

In May 2004 Judge Jay C. Zainey, U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana started the Homeless Experience Legal Protection (HELP) Program in New Orleans. It has shown to be a huge success and has expanded to now programs in 33 cities. Please read more about the program @ homelesslegalprotection.org.

The program is quite simple yet it has had a profound impact on many people’s lives throughout the country. They are now developing a program in Miami. A recruitment meeting in Miami to kick off the program has been scheduled for April 1st and they have invited our FIU Law students to participate.

FEDERAL CIRCUIT BAR ASSOCIATION (FCBA) – INVITATION TO PANEL: STARTING & MAINTAINING A SMALL IP LAW FIRM [APRIL 2, 2015]

Mike Mireles, Co-Chair of the Diversity Committee and Professor of Law at the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law has invited our FIU Law students to a FCBA-sponsored teleconference panel titled “Starting and Maintaining a Small IP Law Firm.” The panel will explore the experiences of 5 attorneys who successfully practice in small intellectual property law firms. Students can participate in the program by “dialing in” (for more information on how to participate, please see below).

Please join us for a panel discussion about starting your own law firm. The panelists will discuss the challenges of starting and maintaining a small law firm. The panel will examine issues related to transitioning from an established law firm and developing clients, as well as discussing the personal satisfaction of managing and working in your own law firm.

Additional information: On behalf of the FCBA Committees for Diversity, Membership, and Law Clerks and Students, they would like to invite our FIU Law students to join the FCBA (fedcirbar.org/olc/pub/LVFC/cpages/homepage/homepage.jsp). The FCBA is the national organization for the bar of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington DC. They sponsor numerous intellectual property law related programs relevant to law students and award scholarships. They also hold a national conference every year and publish articles through the Federal Circuit Bar Journal and FCBA Newsletter. Notably, all of their webinars are now offered for free to members – and, students may join the FCBA for free.

 

SOUTH PALM BEACH COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION – MENTORSHIP COMMITTEE LAUNCH [APRIL 30, 2015]

Robert A. Gusrae, Esq. of Debt Relief Law Florida is a practicing attorney in South Florida who has helped to establish a Mentorship program to help young lawyers and soon to be lawyers who want to practice in the South Palm Beach County Area.  They are throwing their very first event and wish to alert our FIU Law students to the opportunity they present. If you have any interest in practicing in the general area around Boca Raton they seek to be a resource to you.

Mentorship with an older more established attorney can help with developing real world lawyering skills, networking and business development, as well as an opportunity to ingratiate oneself into the neighborhood.
