PRUDENTIAL 1L SUMMER INTERNSHIP [DEADLINE EXTENDED: MAR. 27, 2017 BY 10 A.M. EST]

The National LGBT Bar Association is pleased to partner with Prudential Financial, Inc. (Prudential) to provide a meaningful summer internship opportunity for a highly-motivated first-year law student. A stipend of approximately $10,000 will be provided, which will accrue and be paid on a weekly basis.

The summer internship will provide interns with the opportunity to work with attorneys who support the broad reach of Prudential’s businesses. Other features of the summer internship program include:

  • Paid attendance at the LCLD Scholars Summit in Philadelphia, PA, My 23-25, 2017
  • Participation in training programs presented by Prudential attorneys highlighting different areas of the business and the legal department
  • Pairing with an attorney who will serve as a manager during the program and will provide guidance on projects and other substantive work
  • Pairing with a mentor who will serve as an additional advisor on resume review
  • Interviewing skill development and mock interview practice
  • Networking both within Prudential and externally with law firms and regulatory groups
  • Presentation development and delivery
  • The opportunity to shadow attorneys on various projects
  • Opportunities to interview with selected local firms for potential 2L internships

Who: 1Ls (who are scheduled for graduation in spring 2019 full-time/spring 2020 part-time)

Where: Prudential’s NJ offices

When: 10 weeks from May 22, 2017 – July 28, 2017

Requirements: LGBT Bar membership

  • GPA: 3.0
  • Skills: The ideal applicant will have financial or business related experience/interest

WRITING COMPETITION update:

THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF YOUNG LAWYERS (AIJA) – BEST INTERNATIONAL FUTURE LAWYER AWARD [DEADLINE: MAY 1, 2017]

Eligibility: Law students aged 45 and under who are still enrolled at any university worldwide at the time the paper is submitted. Eligible Candidates may be pursuing law studies at any level (including graduate or postgraduate studies) to the extent they are not yet admitted to practice and/or licensed in their jurisdiction. AIJA membership is not a requirement to submit application.

Topic: The impact of technology on the law and/or on the legal profession

Awards: The winner will be invited to participate in AIJA’s Annual Congress @ Tokyo, given free organization membership (for the 3 years following award ceremony), publication of name and essay’s title on AIJA’s website newsletters, etc., and recognized with a certificate

Submission guidelines: (1) Submit electronic application (available @ awards.aija.org/?lang=en#terms); (2) must be written in English or French; (3) double-spaced 12-point Times New Roman font with 1-inch margins in A4 paper size; (4) between 10-15 pages, including footnotes; and (5) it must be divided into the following sections:

I. Executive Summary

II. The Question(s) Presented section

III. Statement of the Facts / Statement of the Case

IV. Argument section

V. Conclusion

*Essays need to be anonymous: Identifying information will be part of the submission application form, but essays must not identify the university name or location.
