Applications are currently being accepted for the position of Legal Research Associate/Meeting Coordinator and to work on a research project entitled The African Court Research Initiative (ACRI) funded by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa and supported by the Pan African Lawyers Union. The key focus of the project, which is based at FIU College of Law in Miami, will be on the African Union’s Malabo protocol conferring criminal, human rights and general jurisdiction on the African Court of Justice and Human and People’s Rights and the normative framework in which it sits under international law.

Under the supervision and guidance of Professors Charles Jalloh (Florida International University) and Kamari Clarke (Carleton University), and in collaboration with other team members, the Legal Research Associate will be responsible for carrying out research in international criminal law, international humanitarian law, public international law, and other relevant bodies of law, on both procedural and substantive legal questions. The researcher’s role is to help in preparing papers, memoranda and other documents and to aid in achieving the objectives of the ACRI project and contribute towards generating the planned outputs. Planned outputs include a commentary, rules of procedure and elements of crimes. Duties include helping to direct conceptually relevant research questions, conducting legal research, disseminating assignments to the student research assistants-when needed, as well as summarizing and providing data for the project’s annual and bi-annual reports.

The Legal Research Associate, who will be based in Miami at the FIU College of Law, will also be the primary point of contact and coordinator for two meetings related to the research project, one of which will be in Ethiopia and the other in The Netherlands. THE LOYOLA PATENT LAW INTERVIEW PROGRAM [STUDENT REGISTRATION DEADLINE: MAR. 10, 2016]

The Loyola Patent Law Interview Program is a two-day interview program held in Chicago each summer that brings together patent law employers and law students from across the country to interview for summer associate positions and post-graduate employment.

Each year roughly 1,500 law students register for the program, submit their resumes, and bid on interviews with the nation-wide employers that interest them. The program is entirely employer selected – which means that participating employers review the resumes submitted to them and choose the law students they are interested in interviewing at the program. Roughly half of the students registered for the program are selected for interviews each year.

*Please note: Students do not need to be patent bar eligible to register for the Patent Law Interview Program. However, many employers make patent bar eligibility a requirement for bidding, and most employers prefer patent bar eligible students. Although a number of employers indicate on their registration forms that they are willing to interview students who are not patent bar eligible, it is our experience that non-patent bar eligible students are generally disappointed as they do not receive many interviews or job offers through the Patent Law Interview Program.

Who: The 2016 Patent Law Interview Program will be accepting registrations from:

  • JD students graduating in May/June 2017
  • JD students graduating in May/June 2018
  • JD students graduating in December 2016/January 2017
  • JD students graduating in December 2017/January 2018

Where: Embassy Suites Chicago – Downtown/Lakefront, 511 N. Columbus Drive

When: August 4-5, 2016

Complete details: Available @ luc.edu/law/career/patent_students.html

Registration: Available @ patentlawregistration.luc.edu/lawstudents/Default.aspx
