FLORIDA SUPREME COURT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM FOR DISTINGUISHED FLORIDA LAW STUDENTS [DEADLINE TO SUBMIT INTEREST IN APPLYING TO DEAN BIERMAN: MAY 21, 2015]

Intern for a Florida Supreme Court Justice or work as a central staff law clerk. Duties will include reviewing and making recommendations on petitions for discretionary review, attorney discipline matters, conducting legal research and preparing memoranda on pending cases. Participating students will attend oral arguments, discuss cases with staff attorneys and assist in the drafting of orders or opinions and will be eligible to take classes at FSU Law.

 

Who: FIU Law is invited to send one intern for the fall 2015 term. The student selected will receive a 3K stipend.

When: The term will begin Monday, August 24, 2015 and will end Wednesday, November 25, 2015

WRITING COMPETITION update:

U.S. COURT OF FEDERAL CLAIMS BAR ASSOCIATION LAW STUDENT WRITING COMPETITION [DEADLINE: JULY 17, 2015 BY 11:59 P.M.]

The U.S. Court of Federal Claims Bar Association is pleased to announce its annual Law Student Writing Competition for the 2014-15 academic year. The Court of Federal Claims Bar Association is a non-profit, voluntary bar association made up of nationwide members who practice law before of the United States Court of Federal Claims. The goal of this competition is to encourage law student scholarship on current topics that fall within the jurisprudence of the United States Court of Federal Claims.

Topic: Entries may address any topic that lies within the procedure, substance, or scope of the jurisdiction of the Unites States Court of Federal Claims.

The United States Court of Federal Claims was created pursuant to Article I of the United States Constitution in October 1982, by the Federal Courts Improvement Act. A brief overview of the Court’s diverse jurisdiction is available on the official U.S. Court of Federal Claims website. In general, the Court has jurisdiction over monetary claims against the United States that are based upon alleged violations of the Constitution, federal statutes, executive regulations, or express or implied contracts with the United States. This includes broad topical areas such as federal tax law, Fifth Amendment takings, government contracts and bid protests, intellectual property, Native American tribal rights, and claims for vaccine compensation under the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, among others.

Eligibility: All enrolled law students (including recent graduates during the 2014-15 academic year)

Awards: $2,000 cash prize and an opportunity to be published via the Association’s newsletter and website
