Interested in a unique legal internship experience working in the court system? The 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida Administrative Office of the Courts Unified Family Court is looking for interns who will be trained to work in the following capacity:
The Eleventh Judicial Circuit’s Unified Family Court (UFC)/Complex Litigation Division (Division 48) has jurisdiction to handle related family law matters in multiple parts of the court system (“crossover” cases). The nature of these cases is often high in conflict and involves families and children at risk. In accordance with a mandate issued by the Florida Supreme Court in May 2001, the Unified Family Court was established as a mechanism to provide a comprehensive, coordinated approach to handling these complex matters (“one family, one judge”), with the overall purpose of promoting judicial economy, ensuring consistent rulings, and eliminating duplication of resources.
Legal interns will work under the supervision of an attorney who is the Program Manager and an Attorney Case Manager to provide judicial support to Unified Family Court Judges in handling caseloads of crossover cases involving Domestic Relations, Domestic Violence, and Juvenile Dependency and Delinquency matters. Emphasis is placed on maintaining and tracking compliance with Florida Statutes and Rules of Procedure, as well as guiding cases through appropriate court processes, facilitating provision of resources and social service referrals, providing the court with status summary information on related case histories and court activity, and working cooperatively with justice system partners.

THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY PROFESSORS (AAUP) – LEGAL INTERNSHIPS & EXTERNSHIPS
AAUP is seeking qualified interns or externs for summer or the academic year. The AAUP is a national organization founded in 1915 that is active in areas including intellectual freedom, due process, professional ethics, and university governance. AAUP legal staff will work with interested applicants to arrange for public interest stipends, academic credit or pro bono credit from their law school.
The intern and extern positions will be in a legal department currently staffed with 2 lawyers and 1 paralegal and involves significant in-house legal and other support work for the Association. The legal office files amicus briefs in higher education cases of national significance, provides legal information on a wide range of issues to staff and members all over the country, and acts as a resource on higher education issues. Staff and volunteer lawyers are experts in such areas as academic freedom, discrimination, affirmative action, intellectual property, and employment. Interns and externs can expect to be asked to research and write on a variety of legal issues including First Amendment, higher education, collective bargaining, election, tax, labor, personnel, financial, and contract issues.
Past legal interns have helped research and write amicus briefs in the federal court system, updated a multi-state survey on faculty handbooks as employment contracts, and researched and written legal outlines and fact sheets on topics such as “Faculty and Defamation Suits,” “Faculty and Family Leave Issues,” and “Academic Freedom and the First Amendment.”
Who: 2Ls or 3Ls
When: Approximately 15 hours/week

Skills: (1.) Excellent analytical skills and (2.) strong writing and research skills
