- POLICY ADVOCATE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH [DEADLINE: DECEMBER 1, 2014] The Natural Resources Defense Council is hiring a Policy Advocate to work with NRDC’s Food and Health Programs, a diverse team of lawyers, policy specialists and scientists, to address public health threats from agriculture and toxics in the environment.
- ACADEMIC FELLOWSHIP IN ANIMAL LAW [DEADLINE: JANUARY 19, 2015] Harvard Law School is hiring a two year Fellow who is committed to pursuing publishable research that will make a significant contribution in the area of animal law. The Fellowship is part of the Animal Advocacy Program at Harvard Law School, which is a new program made possible by a gift from Bradley Goldberg. They are specifically looking for recent graduates, junior academics, and mid-career practitioners.
- WILDLIFE STAFF ATTORNEY The Humane Society of the United States is hiring a staff attorney to work within their Animal Protection Litigation section. The staff attorney will focus on litigation and other legal actions that aim to protect wildlife, including actions to protect endangered and other vulnerable species, and to prevent abusive and unnecessary practices such as the use of cruel traps and poisons to kill wild animals.
GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY LAW CENTER, SOCIAL ENTERPRISE & NONPROFIT LAW CLINIC – GRADUATE TEACHING FELLOWSHIP [DEADLINE: DECEMBER 1, 2014]
Description of the Clinic: The Social Enterprise & Nonprofit Law Clinic at Georgetown University Law Center offers pro bono corporate and transactional legal services to social enterprises, nonprofit organizations, and select small businesses in Washington, D.C. and internationally. Through the Clinic, law students learn to translate theory into practice by engaging in the supervised practice of law for educational credit. The Clinic’s goals are consistent with Georgetown University’s long tradition of public service. The Clinic’s goals are to:
- Teach law students the materials, expectations, strategies, and methods of transactional lawyering, as well as an appreciation for how transactional law can be used in the public interest.
- Represent social enterprises and nonprofit organizations in corporate and transactional legal matters.
- Facilitate the growth of social enterprise in the D.C. Area.
In the Clinic, law students learn about corporate governance, shareholders and stakeholders, business relationships and operations, and business documents. Students are taught how to become partners in enterprise for their clients with the understanding that innovative transactional lawyers understand both the legal and non-legal incentive structures that drive business organizations.
Description of Fellowship: The two-year fellowship is an ideal position for a transactional lawyer interested in developing teaching and supervisory abilities in a setting that emphasizes a dual commitment—clinical education of law students and the promotion of social enterprise and sustainable business. The fellow will have several areas of responsibility, with an increasing role as the fellowship progresses. Over the course of the fellowship, the fellow will: (i) supervise students in representing nonprofit organizations and social enterprises on transactional, operational, and corporate governance matters, (ii) share responsibility for teaching seminar sessions, and (iii) share in the administrative and case handling responsibilities of the Clinic. Fellows also participate in a clinical pedagogy seminar and other activities designed to support an interest in clinical teaching and legal education. Successful completion of the fellowship results in the award of an L.L.M. in Advocacy from Georgetown University.
Teaching fellows receive an annual stipend of approximately $53,500 (taxable), health and dental benefits, and all tuition and fees in the LL.M. program. As full-time students, teaching fellows qualify for deferment of their student loans. In addition, teaching fellows may be eligible for loan repayment assistance from their law schools.
Who: Applicants must have at least 3 years of post J.D. legal experience. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in a transactional area of practice such as nonprofit law and tax, corporate law, intellectual property, real estate, or finance. Applicants with a strong commitment to economic justice are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be admitted or willing to be admitted to the District of Columbia Bar.
When: The fellowship start date is July 1, 2015, and the fellowship is for 2 years, ending June 30, 2017

THE TAX DIVISION, U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE – EXPERIENCED TRIAL ATTORNEYS [DEADLINE: DECEMBER 3, 2014 BY 11:59 P.M. EST]
The Tax Division, U.S. Department of Justice, anticipates hiring for several civil trial attorney positions in Washington, D.C. Familiarity with tax law is helpful, but not required.
The Tax Division anticipates hiring civil litigators with varying levels of experience. Applicants must have at least 1 year of full-time post-J.D. legal experience by the date the application is submitted. Additionally, the Division is seeking to fill a limited number of positions for applicants with significant litigation experience to include serving as a first or second chair at trial and other direct courtroom experience, experience with e-discovery issues, taking depositions, drafting and responding to discovery, working with fact and expert witnesses, and/or arguing dispositive motions.

Persuasiveness, judgment, and a collaborative orientation are also highly valued. Familiarity with tax law is helpful, but not required.
Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, and must be duly licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney under the laws of any state or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia. Active bar membership (of any jurisdiction) is required. United States citizenship is required.
