EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS – RURAL SUMMER LEGAL CORPS [DEADLINE: FEB. 10, 2020]

This program places 35 law students at LSC-funded civil legal aid organizations to address pressing issues facing rural communities. Projects include working on disaster-related issues, addressing affordable housing issues, providing legal aid to victims of domestic violence, responding to the opioid crisis, and more. Students can view the different projects and organizations hosting Student Fellows here. This opportunity provides a $5,000 stipend.

FLORIDA BAR FOUNDATION – 2020 CIVIC LEGAL SERVICES SUMMER FELLOWSHIP [DEADLINE: FEB. 19, 2020 BY 11:59 P.M. EST]

Program Overview: This program seeks 12 ambitious Florida law students to participate in an exciting 11-week summer fellowship with one of Florida’s civil legal aid organizations. The organization and the summer fellow will be matched using their preferences outlined by each in their application. The purpose of this fellowship program is twofold: 1. to foster a desire within each participating student to continue to assist low income families with civil legal needs after they graduate, whether it be through employment at a legal services organization or through pro bono work; and 2. for the organization to utilize the summer fellow in support of their goal to provide essential civil legal assistance to clients.

The monetary stipend for rising 2L’s will be $6,500, and $8,250 for rising 3L’s. This fellowship offers students a unique opportunity to gain meaningful legal experience while also helping those in the community who need it most. Decisions about approval and organization placement will be made by March 27, 2020.

Who: Currently a rising 2L or 3L at an accredited Florida law school;

Where: There is a mandatory orientation for students May 18-19, 2020 in Orlando (travel and hotel accommodations will be covered by the Florida Bar Foundation)

When: Full-time position for the summer from May 25 – Aug. 7

Requirements: (1) Competitive resume and (2) a strong interest in public service work
