NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SUMMER 2019 LEGAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM [DEADLINE: MAR. 15, 2019]

The intern will gain exposure to legal work in a prestigious non-profit organization and will develop skills in the areas of legal research and contracting. In addition the intern will get the opportunity to be mentored by experienced attorneys and gain career-relevant, hands-on experience in the field of Legal and Business Affairs.

Principal Learning Responsibilities:

  • Gain experience in analyzing contracts to research specific questions and summarizing the results into memoranda, reports or databases
  • Expand experience of legal research and drafting correspondence and memoranda
  • Hone skills in drafting contracts and amendments
  • Researching intellectual property rights questions by reviewing relevant contracts
  • Gain experience in working across departments by participating in client meetings and by working with clients to update or obtain information
  • Other related activities as assigned

When: June 3 – Aug. 9, 2019

Requirements: The Legal Intern must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.  The individual should be detail oriented, well organized, and deadline driven.  Working in Legal and Business Affairs requires proficiency in Microsoft Word and familiarity with Microsoft Excel. The ability to learn new software applications (e.g. for email, document management, rights databases) quickly is also important. Familiarity with Microsoft PowerPoint and Access is a plus. The Legal Intern should possess outstanding interpersonal skills and be comfortable working in both legal and general business environments.
