19TH ANNUAL SOUTHEASTERN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY JOB FAIR (SIPJF) – VIRTUAL [DEADLINE TO REGISTER: MAY 8, 2023]

SIPJF undertakes a multi-faceted approach to ensure that students are gaining the best employment opportunities and employers are procuring the brightest future members of the IP community.

SIPJF DIVERSE CANDIDATE INTERVIEW COACHING

Diverse students interested in pre-interview coaching are invited to participate in SIPJF mentoring sessions hosted by the GIPA DEI Committee. Interested students will be paired with an IP professional for a 1-hour telephone/video call in advance of their SIPJF interview.

Students interested in mentoring should send an email by July 1. Sign-up emails should include a copy of the student’s resume and current contact information. Students may indicate if they identify with a particular group and would like to be paired with someone of a similar background.

Important dates:

  • April 10 – May 8: Student registration
  • May 9 – 26: Students bid on employers
  • May 30 – June 16: Employers review bids
  • June 19 – 30: Students accept / decline
  • July 13: Schedule posted
  • July 27: SIPJF

*The CP&P Office will be paying for your $30 registration fee, so be sure to select “0 Student (paid by school).”

Who: If it is the same as in past years, this event is geared primarily toward rising 2Lshowever, registration is open for all current students and recent graduates to be able to view the hiring details from this year’s registered employers

WRITING COMPETITION update:

MARSHALL M. SCHULMAN STUDENT WRITING COMPETITION [DEADLINE: APR. 30, 2023]

Sponsored by the Criminal Law Section of the California Lawyers’ Association (formerly the Criminal Law Section of the California State Bar).

Eligibility: 1L students

Topic: Any submission about a criminal law-related issue

Awards:

Grand Prize

  • $1500 cash prize
  • The Grand Prize –winning paper will be published in the Criminal Law Journal, the official quarterly publication of the Criminal Law Section of the State Bar of California
  • One-year student membership in the Criminal Law Section

Three Honorable Mention Prizes

  • $500 cash prize
  • Each of the papers awarded Honorable Mention status will be published in the Criminal Law Journal, the official quarterly publication of the Criminal Law Section of the California Lawyers Association
  • One-year student membership in the Criminal Law Section

Submission guidelines: Papers submitted to the Competition must be in Word format and sent by e-mail attachment. Submissions must be accompanied by an e-mail cover letter verifying the author’s current law school enrollment and authorizing the Criminal Law Section of the State Bar to publish the paper in the California Criminal Law Journal.

SCHOLARSHIP update:

TRIAL LAWHER SCHOLARSHIP [DEADLINE: MAY 1, 2023]

Milestone has established the Trial LawHER Scholarship to help a rising 3L female law student achieve her goal of becoming a plaintiff trial lawyer. This scholarship intends to elevate a rising woman leader in the plaintiff trial lawyer space and educate future trial lawyers around the importance and impact of settlement planning.
