POLICE PRACTICES & RACIAL JUSTICE [JUNE 3, 2021]

Presented by ACLU of Florida Greater Miami Chapter. The panel will discuss several topics related to the efficacy of current police practices; available methods of civilian oversight of police and current roadblocks to meaningful oversight; the anticipated pitfalls and consequences from HB1, now the Anti-Protest law; and other concerns about civil liberties and racial justice both locally and state-wide.

SMITH-DOHENY LEGAL ETHICS WRITING COMPETITION [DEADLINE: JUNE 1, 2021 AT 5 P.M. EST]

Eligibility: Any current student at an American or Canadian law school

Topic: Any legal ethics topic

Awards: $2,500

Submission guidelines: Minimum of 5,000 words/maximum of 15,000 words, inclusive of footnotes

2022 BAKER DONELSON DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP [DEADLINE: MAY 31, 2021 EXTENDED TO JUNE 13, 2021 BY MIDNIGHT]

Eligibility: We will award three scholarships to three diverse rising 2L law students who will complete their first year of law school by June 2021

Award: Recipients will be awarded a six-week, salaried 2L Summer Associate position for the summer of 2022 in one of our Firm’s offices

  • Additionally, each recipient will be awarded $10,000, which will be paid prior to the student’s third year of law school, to help defray the cost of law school tuition and related expenses
