SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION – FALL 2015 LEGAL STUDENT HONORS PROGRAM [DEADLINE: JUNE 19, 2015 AT 11:59 P.M. ET]

The SEC is seeking bright, innovative, results-oriented individuals for its 2015 Fall Honors Program in their 11 regional offices. They offer law students robust responsibilities and experiences that enhance their legal careers. Over the course of the ten-week program, students work with Commission staff on projects particular to the specific Division or Office to which they are assigned. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in seminars/workshops, roundtable discussions, a mentoring program, and tours that will provide detailed information and guidance on securities laws.

Duties: Law students will be assigned to work with SEC staff members on projects and assignments that cover a broad range of the Commissions’ work. Work assignments may vary based on the regional office the student is assigned. Intern assignments range from supporting litigation to assisting with drafting new regulations to helping with reviews, exams or public outreach.

Who: 2Ls & 3Ls (as of August 2015)

Where: Vacancies open in Miami, FL as well as Atlanta, GA; Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco, CA; and Denver, CO

When: August 31, 2015 – November 6, 2015

Requirements:

Submission components: (1) Resume, (2) cover letter, (3) transcript, and (4) writing sample (no more than 10 pages)

SCHOLARSHIP update:

2015 GOODMAN ACKER LAW SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP [DEADLINE: DECEMBER 1, 2015]

Who: Students (U.S. citizens) who are currently attending or have been accepted to an accredited law school in the U.S.

Award: $1,000 (to be used to pay for education-related expenses)

*Winners announced January 2, 2016

Requirements:

  • Academic achievement (minimum 3.0 GPA)

Submission components: Applicants will have a choice to write on 1 of the following 2 topics:

  1. As a victim, what are the top 10 things you should ask your personal injury lawyer?
  2. How would the world be different if there were no personal injury lawyers?

Essay must be typed, no more than 3 pages, double spaced, Times New Roman, size 12 point font
