We are excited to seek applications this Fall for our new fellowship in collaboration with the Committee to Support Antitrust Laws, or COSAL.

The goal of the new fellowship is to enable new lawyers to pursue antitrust litigation as a crucial tool for accountability within the U.S. legal system, with a particular focus on facilitating the advancement of underrepresented individuals within the antitrust field, emphasizing inclusivity, fairness, and equal opportunity.

About Jonathan W. Cuneo

Jonathan W. Cuneo, co-founder of the Committee to Support Antitrust Laws (COSAL), was a prominent figure in antitrust litigation, championing consumer rights against influential entities. His achievements include pivotal victories against auto parts manufacturers, Enron, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., and on behalf of holocaust survivors. A founding partner of   Cuneo Gilbert & LaDuca law firm, Mr. Cuneo also co-founded the American Antitrust Institute and the National Association of Shareholder and Consumer Attorneys in addition to COSAL.

LABOR & EMPLOYMENT LAW SECTION: DR. EMANUEL STEIN & KENNETH STEIN MEMORIAL LAW STUDENT WRITING COMPETITION [DEADLINE: NOV. 30, 2023]

To recognize excellence among law school students writing in the area of labor and employment law; and to cultivate the relationship between the Section and future labor and employment practitioners.

Announcement of Winners and Presentation of Awards will be held at the Annual Section Meeting on Friday, January 19, 2024

Topic: Submissions should focus on any timely, compelling aspect of labor and employment law

Awards:

  • 1st place: $3,000 and publication in Section newsletter
  • 2nd place: $2,000
  • 3rd place: $1,000

Submission guidelines: All articles are to be submitted in the following format:

  1. 1) Double spaced; 2) on 8-1/2 inch by 11 inch paper, 1 inch margins; 3) no longer than 20 pages (exclusive of endnotes); 4) citations are to conform to “A Uniform System of Citation” (The Bluebook).
  2. If published by the Section, all articles submitted for the competition become the property of the Labor and Employment Law Section and the New York State Bar Association. No article submitted may be published in any journal or periodical other than the “New York State Bar Journal”, or the “Labor and Employment Law Section Newsletter”, until after announcement of the winner of this competition in January.
  3. Students should include a cover letter with the entry stating your name, mailing address and phone number (both school and permanent), social security number, name of your school and year of graduation. Do not include your name or personal information on your paper.

CAREER CONNECTIONS: COMPETITION & ANTITRUST IN AGRICULTURAL LAW [NOV. 1, 2023]

The LL.M. Program in Agricultural and Food Law at the University of Arkansas School of Law and the Food Law Student Network are co-hosting a webinar on career paths in the areas of competition and antitrust in agriculture. Come learn what it is like to work in this exciting area of food and agricultural law. Experts in the field will share about current cases, their career paths, and career opportunities in the area. Many job opportunities are available in this field in private practice, nonprofits, trade associations, and Federal government agencies including the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) are involved in enforcing these laws.
