LEADERSHIP COUNCIL ON LEGAL DIVERSITY (LCLD) – 2020-2021 SUCCESS IN LAW SCHOOL MENTORING PROGRAM [NOV. 13, 2020]

The primary objective of this Mentoring Program is to ensure that diverse/underrepresented first year law students receive the mentoring and preparation that they need to maximize their potential in law school and beyond.

LCLD is an organization of hundreds of corporate general counsels and law firm managing partners who collaborate to build and maintain programs in support of diverse law students and lawyers across the life span of their professional development. The Mentoring Program is LCLD’s introductory program, in which 1L students first become acquainted with the organization. Our mentees can look forward to opportunities to participate as rising 2Ls in the LCLD 1L Scholars Program, as early-career attorneys in the LCLD’s Pathfinders Program, and as mid-career attorneys in the LCLD Fellows Program.

The Mentoring Program has two primary components – the Individual Mentoring Program (“IMP”) and the Group Mentoring Program (“GMP”). Relevant here, the IMP matches diverse 1L law students with lawyers from LCLD member organizations for one-to-one mentoring. We work with students from more than 100 ABA-accredited law schools in about 30 cities each year. We match students and lawyers locally so that mentors and mentees have an opportunity to meet in person at least once during the academic year. The in-person requirement will be relaxed this year for obvious reasons. As part of the GMP, we’ll also be having some larger group mentoring sessions this year that will incorporate 2L and 3L diverse/underrepresented students to have a chance to meet and network with attorneys within the LCLD network – so please stay tuned for that as well!

They have a sizeable number of both law firm and corporate department attorneys that are excited to be matched up with law students here in Miami!
