WRITING COMPETITION update:

INTERNATIONAL IN-HOUSE COUNSEL JOURNAL (IICJ) – WRITING OPPORTUNITY [DEADLINE: JAN. 12, 2018]

The IICJ editorial board will be reviewing all the abstracts submitted at their next meeting on Jan. 16. For an idea of the papers they publish, please take a look at the current November issue. By writing a paper for the IICJ you will be part of a group of highly respected in-house counsel who have contributed first class papers on a range of legal and management topics, which have been inspired from their experiences.

Eligibility: The IICJ only publishes papers written by in-house counsel enabling readers to have a close insight into the thought processes of their peers across the world and industry sectors

Topic: The IICJ is not prescriptive about the subject matter; principally because the issues you are facing now are constantly evolving with new innovative practices being employed continuously.

Subjects that are always of interest are case studies, particularly those involving litigation and M&A: How did the matter arise in the first place? How did you set out the plan and the processes required to reach a satisfactory conclusion? What went right and what would you do differently given hindsight?

The areas that we will be covering in 2018 will be:

  • Cross-border commerce
  • Artificial intelligence (the use within legal teams and risks to other business groups using AI for other purposes)
  • Doing business in…  (addressing regulatory and retaining external legal advisers considerations, advising business units and keeping up to date with changes in legislation)
  • Managing the in-house counsel function (liaising with senior managers to ensure that the company is complying with legislation and managing the functions of the legal department)
  • Case studies of: M&A, competition, employment, company share schemes, taxation, data protection, intellectual property, contracts, litigation successes and the failures too

Submission guidelines: The paper is to be between 3000-6000 words. In the first instance, we require an outline of 150-200 words describing the topic you intend to cover.
