AIPLA PATENT PROSECUTION BOOT CAMP [OCT. 25-26, 2016]
This two-day patent prosecution seminar, also known as “boot camp,” is tailored to new practitioners, as well as to those who want to learn the basics or refresh their knowledge of U.S. patent application preparation and prosecution. The boot camp is also suitable for foreign practitioners who want to understand and speak the language of the US practitioners when sending instructions on a US case or receiving instructions on a local case.
The patent prosecution boot camp is a comprehensive, CLE-accredited seminar that includes instructional lecture-style sessions with practical tips on U.S. patent preparation and prosecution and hands-on interactive workshops on claim drafting and responding to office actions. The workshops are held in smaller groups according to technology background:

INTA – BEST PRACTICES IN ANTICOUNTERFEITING ENFORCEMENT IN NORTH AMERICA WEBCAST [OCT. 26, 2016]
The U.S. National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center (IPR Center) stands at the forefront of the U.S. Government’s response to global IP theft and enforcement of its international trade laws. The mission of the IPR Center is to ensure national security by protecting the public’s health and safety and the U.S. economy, to support our fighters in the war against counterfeiting, and to stop predatory and unfair trade practices that threaten the global economy. To accomplish this goal, the IPR Center brings together 23 partner agencies, consisting of 19 key federal agencies, Interpol, Europol, and the governments of Canada and Mexico in a task-force setting. In 2015, this tactical interagency collaboration under the IPR Center resulted in 538 arrests, with 339 indictments and 357 convictions. The IPR Center is led by Director Bruce Foucart, who will present the IPR Center’s multi-layered strategic approach to IPR Enforcement.
In 2011, the Canada Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) (run by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police) started receiving a small number of complaints from Canadians reporting that they had been deceived by spoofed websites selling counterfeit or questionable goods. In response to these complaints, the CAFC developed a novel, effective, and uniquely Canadian approach to intellectual property protection and combatting counterfeiting. The first collaboration of its kind in the world, “Project Chargeback” teams the CAFC with credit card companies and banks, who all work together to reimburse victims of online fraudsters and then close counterfeit retailers’ accounts, making it impossible for fraudsters to conduct their activities online. Since its inception, the CAFC has identified over 5,000 merchant accounts worldwide that are linked to counterfeiting, fraud, and IP theft. Barry Elliott from the CAFC will give a presentation about Project Chargeback.
