OTHER EJW OPPORTUNITIES FOR LAW STUDENTS & RECENT GRADUATES

  • AMERICORPS JD OPPORTUNITIES FOR LAW STUDENTS:  The Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps JD program provides law students with the opportunity to earn a $1,212 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award for dedicating 300 hours of service to a qualifying legal project with a nonprofit program or other qualifying organization. Their priority areas for these opportunities include working with veterans and military families and working on removing barriers to employment. Students working with veterans or military families or those working to remove barriers to employment can apply for the AmeriCorps JD program by contacting americorpsjd@equaljusticeworks.org.
  • OPPORTUNITY FOR RECENT GRADUATES – IMMIGRANT CHILDREN’S DEFENSE CORPS: Positions are available to represent unaccompanied children in immigration proceedings across the country through a partnership between The Catholic Legal Immigration Network, EJW, Kids in Need of Defense, and the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants.
  • OPPORTUNITY FOR RECENT GRADUATES – VISTA AFFORDABLE HOUSING PRESERVATION PROJECT: This program offers opportunities to preserve, maintain, and improve project-based Section 8 affordable housing across the U.S. through community organizing and legal services work.

 

THE INTER-AMERICAN DIALOGUE SPRING 2015 INTERNSHIPS [DEADLINE: DECEMBER 10, 2014]

The Inter-American Dialogue is now accepting applications for Spring 2015. The Dialogue is a leading U.S. center for policy analysis, exchange, and communication on issues in Western Hemisphere affairs. It brings together public and private leaders from across the Americas to address hemispheric problems and opportunities. Together they seek to build cooperation among Western Hemisphere nations and advance a regional agenda of democratic governance, social equity, and economic growth.

General Responsibilities:

  • As assigned, assist the president, associates and staff with research and writing on current issues affecting U.S.-Latin American relations;
  • Attend and report on Washington-area briefings, working groups, congressional testimonies and meetings;
  • Take notes for Dialogue events and write event summaries;
  • Edit and translate articles, reports and other publications;
  • Perform administrative tasks including: managing the front desk, assisting in conference organization and outreach, and intermittent copying, faxing and mailings.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in Latin America and the Caribbean;
  • Demonstrated research and writing abilities;
  • Proficiency in English, Spanish and/or Portuguese;
  • Valid US student visa or US citizenship
  • Availability a minimum of eight sixteen to twenty hour work weeks;
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Requirements:

Submission components: (1) Cover letter, (2) resume, (3) brief writing sample of 1-2 pages, and (4) a letter of recommendation to the Internship Coordinator at the address provided below.

*Applicants should specify the program with which they would like to work in their cover letter and in the subject line of their email. Their cover letter should also state whether they are eligible to work in the U.S. or have a valid U.S. student visa.

THE NATIONAL CENTER ON PHILANTHROPY AND THE LAW (NCPL) – NONPROFIT LAW FELLOWSHIPS [DEADLINE: DECEMBER 12, 2014]

The NCPL at New York University School of Law is offering the following 3 Fellowships in Nonprofit Law:

  1. The Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF) Fellowship in Nonprofit Law at the Vera Institute of Justice
  2. The National Center on Philanthropy and the Law (NCPL) Fellowship in Nonprofit Law at New York University¹s Office of Legal Counsel
  3. The Open Society Presidential (OSP) Fellowship in Law

The RBF and NCPL Fellowships will each be awarded to 1 graduate of an accredited U.S. law school.  The OSP Presidential Fellowship in Law will be awarded to a law student graduating in 2015.
