13TH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT – TRIAL COURT STAFF ATTORNEY (2 POSITIONS OPEN!) [DEADLINE: APR. 23, 2021 BY 11:59 P.M.]

The successful applicants will assist state court circuit judges with legal research, drafting of proposed orders and judgments and other related assignments. The positions will be assigned to the Felony Division, with one assisting with both pretrial and post-conviction relief matters and the other assisting primarily with Rule 3.850 motions.

Who: Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school or enrollment in the final semester or quarter of law school is a requirement for applying

  • If the successful applicant is not a member of The Florida Bar at the time of hire, he or she must become a Florida Bar member within one year of the hire date

Where: Tampa, FL

When: Expected start date in May 2021

Requirements: Applicants must possess excellent research, writing, proofreading and communication skills. Applicants must also exhibit strong organizational and time management skills and be able to effectively prioritize pending assignments. Discretion, honesty, and confidentiality in handling matters before the court are essential.

Submission components: (1) Cover letter; and (2) a résumé that includes law school class rank. Applicants may also submit (a) a State of Florida Employment Application; and (b) recommendation letters, but these items are not required at this time

6TH ANNUAL AUWCL NATIONAL HEALTH LAW WRITING COMPETITION [DEADLINE: APR. 25, 2021]

Eligibility: Current 2L, 3L, and 4L (evening/part-time) JD and LLM students enrolled in a U.S. law school at the time of paper submission are eligible to participate

Topic: This competition is designed to encourage law students to write scholarly papers on current topics of interest relevant to health law and/or food and drug law

Awards:

  • First Place: $2,000
  • Second Place: $1,500
  • Third Place: $1,000
  • Honorable Mention: $750

GIPA – INVENTOR IP ROUNDTABLE: “HOW IP CAN ADD VALUE TO STARTUPS” [APR. 20, 2021]

 

 

We’ve assembled a superstar panel to discuss how IP is an important element to any startup’s strategy and can increase the value of a venture. 14TH ANNUAL VIRTUAL DESIGN DAY [APR. 22, 2021]

 

 

AIPLA is co-hosting an afternoon of lively and thought-provoking discussion about various aspects of design patents. The 14th Annual Virtual Design Day will be hosted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), where USPTO design examiners and managers, design patent practitioners, and industrial designers will provide insights.

 

The event features:

  • Welcome and Kick-off from Deputy Commissioner for Patents for the USPTO, Valencia Martin Wallace;
  • An update from the Director of Technology Center 2900, Karen Young;
  • Information on recent design law changes on an international level from the Office of Policy and International Affairs (OPIA);
  • Hear from Henry Tang, Associate General Counsel, about Facebook’s journey with design protection;
  • Case law summarizing the most important design patent decisions over the past year from the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the district courts, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB); and more!
