FACEBOOK COUNSEL, CONTENT

Facebook seeks a highly motivated team player with a passion for online intermediary liability issues to serve as Counsel, Content. This role will tackle cutting-edge issues on a global scale arising from content posted by users on Facebook, Instagram, and the company’s other services. The ideal candidate will have a background in user-generated content and legal regimes relating to online intermediaries, including the Communications Decency Act (CDA) under US law and the E-Commerce Directive under EU law. Days are fast-paced and action-packed, and we are looking for someone that is eager to roll up their sleeves and problem-solve on content-related matters of all kinds.

  • Provide legal advice on incoming reports relating to content posted by users on the company’s services, including Facebook and Instagram
  • Develop and apply procedures, policies and practices arising under relevant laws globally to manage the company’s legal risk for user-generated content
  • Advise on the intersection of local laws and relevant political considerations in a wide range of diverse legal systems
  • Work closely with global teams across departments and offices, as well as an international network of outside counsel
  • JD degree and membership in at least one US state bar
  • 3+ years of attorney and content-related experience, from in-house or at a law firm
  • Experience with intermediary liability issues and laws (CDA, E-Commerce Directive, etc.)
  • Experience with notice-and-takedown obligations in the US, EU, and elsewhere
  • Experience assessing legal, practical and business risks

SCHOLARSHIP update:

BROWN, PC NATIONAL BUSINESS LAW SCHOLARSHIP [DEADLINE: AUG. 10, 2020]

Eligibility: Second or third year full-time U.S. law student with a demonstrated interest in business law

Award: $500

  • Award will be announced Aug. 17, 2020

Requirements: Minimum 3.0 GPA

Submission components: (1) Cover letter summarizing their interest in business law. Cover letters should also include the following information: (a) Name; (b) Email Address; (c) Street, City, State & Zip Code; (d) Phone Number; (e) University Name & City, State; (f) Student ID Number; (g) GPA (minimum 3.0); (h) Expected Graduation Date; (2) Candidates are encouraged to submit, along with their letter, any documents demonstrating their interest in business law. Documents might include a transcript or class schedule showing business law courses completed or currently enrolled in, a letter of recommendation from a business law professor or a letter from someone who supervised the applicant in a business law-related job or internship.

EVENTS update:

UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI SCHOOL OF LAW – 30TH ANNUAL BANKRUPTCY SKILLS VIRTUAL WORKSHOP [AUG. 7, 2020]

Regardless of your level of bankruptcy experience, the Bankruptcy Skills Workshop offers useful information on local practice in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida. The program focuses on where the practice of consumer bankruptcy is going and more complex issues that arise. Panels this year include a Subchapter V and Court Update & Technology. 2.0 general CLE credits, including 1 in ethics, and 1 in technology, pending FL Bar approval.
