ASSOCIATION OF CORPORATE COUNSEL (AAC) SOUTH FLORIDA 2019 STUDENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM [DEADLINE: JAN. 17, 2019]

The South Florida Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC South Florida) will be selecting 8-10 law students for its 2019 Ambassador Program. Selected law students, or “ACC South Florida Ambassadors”: (1) receive a scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00; and (2) volunteer at various community service/pro bono events during the year. ACC South Florida Ambassadors will also be invited to attend and/or volunteer at select ACC South Florida events. The Ambassador Program is a unique networking and educational opportunity that provides rare access to ACC South Florida’s in-house counsel membership and its sponsors.

The ACC is the world’s largest community of in-house counsel, serving the professional and business interests of attorneys who practice in the legal departments of corporations, associations, and other private-sector organizations around the globe. ACC South Florida serves more than 575 members from the Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. ACC South Florida partners with its sponsors to provide innovative networking opportunities, substantive programs and community outreach by holding several diverse events for its members each year.

Telephone interviews will be conducted with select applicants during the week of Jan. 21 and selections will be made by Jan. 31.

Once the students have been selected, ACC South Florida will send out checks to each University based on the number of students chosen. We request the University disbursed the funds to the students in two installments – the first $500 at the beginning of the program and the second $500 in December at the completion of the program. ACC South Florida will advise if the student has completed the requirements to be eligible to receive the second $500 disbursement.

PALM BEACH COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION SUMMER 2019 DIVERSITY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM [DEADLINE: JAN. 18, 2019 BY 5 P.M.]

The Palm Beach County Bar Association’s Committee on Diversity & Inclusion’s Diversity Internship Program (CDI DIP) is accepting law student applications for their summer internship program.

The Diversity Internship Program (DIP) was established in 2010 to provide diverse law students with the opportunity to obtain practical experience in the legal professional and gain exposure to the Palm Beach County legal community while working with local law firms and government agencies. Prior to 2010, the program was known as the Minority Law Clerk Program and focused on providing students with historically disadvantaged backgrounds legal work experience. In expanding the program, the Palm Beach County Bar Association and Committee for Diversity and Inclusion intend that DIP interns will gain valuable work experience, be able to network with local attorneys and members of the judiciary, have opportunities at future employment, and ultimately decide to begin their legal career in Palm Beach County—continuing their broader goal of creating a diverse Bar Association that reflects the diversity of Palm Beach County and the larger community.

Since its creation, law firms from many different practice areas and many different sizes have participated as employers. State and local government agencies also have participated and employed DIP interns. A few previous DIP interns have been offered opportunities for future, permanent employment due to their participation in the program. However, future employment is not guaranteed. Many DIP interns, employed or not, chose upon graduation to relocate to Palm Beach County and are now active members of the Bar Association.
