2017 INTERNSHIP/CIVIL EXTERNSHIP – NBCUNIVERSAL INTERNATIONAL NETWORKS: BUSINESS & LEGAL AFFAIRS [DEADLINE: MAR. 13, 2017]

Intern’s responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in reviewing content for regulatory compliance purposes
  • Research applicable law and prepare memoranda
  • Assist attorneys with structuring/negotiating programming acquisitions
  • Evaluation of copyright, trademark and other IP issues
  • Assist attorneys with rights clearance process for productions
  • Assist with regulatory matters and conduct applicable research

Who: Must have completed at least 1 year of JD/LL.M. program

Requirements: (1) Must be fluent in English and Spanish

  • GPA: 3.0 or above
  • Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office; analytical thinking; effective communication skills; organization skills; previous work experience in an office environment; previous internship experience in the entertainment industry and/or IP-related matters; coursework related to IP/business ethics/corporate transactions; Portuguese is a plus.

DOJ ENVIRONMENT & NATURAL RESOURCES DIVISION (ENRD) – SAN FRANCISCO FIELD OFFICE LAW STUDENT VOLUNTEER, ACADEMIC YEAR [DEADLINE: MAR. 31, 2017]

The Environment and Natural Resources Division ‘s San Francisco Field Office is seeking law students with a strong interest in gaining practical experience in environmental law and litigation. Law clerks are called upon to conduct legal research on a variety of issues ranging from environmental law to federal practice and procedure, evidence, corporate structure and liability, and bankruptcy. In planning assignments, our attorneys make every effort to provide each student with challenging work in as many areas of our practice as possible. Clerks typically research and draft legal memoranda and briefs, prepare written discovery, present oral reports on shorter research assignments, and attend planning sessions with client agency counsel and technical experts. Clerks may also attend or assist with site visits, witness interviews, depositions, and hearings taking place in or near San Francisco or Sacramento.

DOJ ENVIRONMENT & NATURAL RESOURCES DIVISION (ENRD) – FALL 2017 LAW CLERK PROGRAM [DEADLINE: MAR. 1 – APR. 22, 2017]

The Environment and Natural Resources Division litigates in five key areas: pollution, lands and natural resources, wildlife, Indian resources, and land acquisition. Attorneys represent many federal agencies by preparing and arguing civil and criminal enforcement cases, appeals, and by defending challenged federal agency actions arising from well over 100 federal environmental laws. Cases are at the cutting edge of environmental and natural resources practice. The Division’s work protects our environment for future generations.

Job Description: 30+ positions available. Assignments will vary. In general, law clerks assist the Division’s trial lawyers in preparing cases for filing and supporting the litigation effort post-filing, and assist the Division’s appellate lawyers in researching issues on appeal. Responsibilities typically include conducting legal research, drafting pleadings, discovery, and memoranda of law dealing with a variety of federal environmental and natural resource issues. The Division handles cases covering a broad spectrum of issues including the listing of endangered species and civil and criminal enforcement of federal pollution control laws. A clerkship provides an outstanding opportunity to work hands-on with issues of environmental law.

WRITING COMPETITION update:

HOGAN/SMOGER ACCESS TO JUSTICE ESSAY COMPETITION [DEADLINE: APR. 28, 2017 BY 11:59 P.M.]

This competition is sponsored by R. Ben Hogan III of Hogan Law Office, PC, in Birmingham, Alabama, and Gerson H. Smoger of Smoger & Associates in Dallas, Texas, and Oakland, California. The competition is administered by Public Citizen, a nonprofit organization. With more than 350,000 members and supporters nationwide, Public Citizen advocates for a healthier and more equitable world.

Eligibility: Open to all current law students and all masters of law students. Co-authored submissions are eligible; if selected, the co-authors will share the prize. Each submission must be an original, unpublished academic work, but simultaneous submissions will be accepted. If a submission has been accepted for publication, the student should include the journal’s written consent to the posting of the paper on Public Citizen’s website, which will feature appropriate attribution.

Awards:

  • $5,000 for the best essay
