WRITING COMPETITION update:

JAMAICAN-AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION (JABA) “ESSAY MOOT” [DEADLINE: OCT. 17, 2016]

JABA invites eligible law students to participate in their call for essays. Scholarships will be awarded at the JABA Annual Grand Gala and Awards Ceremony on Nov. 12, 2016.

Eligibility: All entrants are required to be Jamaican-American by birth or descent.

Topic: The “Essay Moot” of this year’s scholarship competition is “Immigration Reform is within the executive power of the President.” Recently, the Supreme Court split 4-4 in its June 23, 2016 decision, affirming a lower court’s ruling, which stopped the President’s deferred action programs. This had the effect of keeping millions of undocumented immigrants under the threat of deportation. 500 word essay response, either agreeing or disagreeing with it.
