FLORIDA SUPREME COURT SPRING 2015 INTERNSHIP PROGRAM FOR DISTINGUISHED FLORIDA LAW STUDENTS [DEADLINE TO SUBMIT INTEREST IN APPLYING TO DEAN BIERMAN: TOMORROW SEPTEMBER 25, 2015]

LOGO_FLSupremeCourtSelected students will intern for a Florida Supreme Court Justice or work as a central staff law clerk. Duties will include reviewing and making recommendations on petitions for discretionary review, attorney discipline matters, conducting legal research and preparing memoranda on pending cases. Interns will be eligible to take classes at FSU Law.

Who: FIU Law is invited to send one intern for the Spring 2015 term. The student selected will receive a 3K stipend.

When: The term will begin Monday, January 11, 2016 and will end Friday, April 22, 2016

2016 PRESIDENTIAL MANAGEMENT FELLOWS (PMF) PROGRAM [DEADLINE: OCTOBER 13, 2015]

LOGO_PMFThe PMF Program is administered by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Selected Finalists are eligible for appointment as Fellows. To become a PMF, you must participate in an arduous, multi-phase process. It takes patience and endurance, but also gives you a chance to demonstrate your leadership ability and potential. WRITING COMPETITION update:

2ND ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL REFUGEE LAW STUDENT WRITING COMPETITION [DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 13, 2015 BY 11:59 P.M. EST]

The American Society of International Law’s International Refugee Law Interest Group (IRLIG) announces its second annual International Refugee Law Student Writing Competition, co-sponsored by the Global Migration Centre at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva; the International Law Students Association (ILSA); the International Journal of Refugee Law; Oxford University Press; and the American Society of International Law (ASIL).

Topic: Papers may address any topic related to international law and refugees, internally-displaced persons (IDPs), and forced migrants

Awards: $100 and the opportunity to have the paper considered for publication in the International Journal of Refugee Law

  • The winner will also receive £300 worth of books of his/her choice provided by Oxford University Press, and a complimentary 1-year student membership provided by ASIL as well as free admission to the ASIL Annual Meeting in Washington on March 30 – April 2, 2016

Submission guidelines: (1) Papers must be written solely by the candidate and may not have been submitted for publication elsewhere, (2) 7,000 – 12,000 words, including footnotes, (3) citations should be in footnotes, rather than endnotes, and (4) articles should be submitted as Microsoft Word attachments

ABA-IPL WEBINAR – APPLE V. SAMSUNG: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW [SEPTEMBER 24, 2015]

In this webinar, our expert panel will explain and analyze the most important parts of the Apple v. Samsung ruling, including an in-depth look at the court’s analysis on the issues of design patent and trade dress functionality.

In May 2015, over two-and-a-half years after the blockbuster $1B+ verdict, the Federal Circuit handed down its decision on the merits appeal in Apple v. Samsung. The panel will not only provide an analysis, but will also discuss the implications of the court’s ruling for both litigation and client-counseling purposes.
