LOYOLA 2015 PATENT LAW INTERVIEW PROGRAM [STUDENT REGISTRATION: FEBRUARY 9, 2015 – MARCH 9, 2015]
Who: The 2015 Patent Law Interview Program will be accepting registrations from:
- JD students graduating in May/June 2016 (3Ls)
- JD students graduating in May/June 2017 (2Ls)
- JD students graduating in December 2015/January 2016 (3Ls)
- JD students graduating in December 2016/January 2017 (2Ls)
- Students in Intellectual Property LLM programs with anticipated graduation dates in 2016 and 2017 (LLMs)
Please note that on the student registration form these will be the only graduation date options available on the drop down menu. Students who will graduate before the program is held in August 2015, and students who plan to graduate after May/June 2017, are not eligible for the 2015 Patent Law Interview Program, and should not register.
Dual degree students should use the date that they will complete both of their degrees as their anticipated graduation date.
*Class Years: Please note that in past years most employers were interested in interviewing rising 2L students, a significantly smaller group of employers were interested in interviewing rising 3L students, and only a handful of employers were interested in interviewing LLM students. We make note of this fact on the student registration form. Each year we hear from disappointed 3L and LLM students who thought that they would have the opportunity to interview with all participating employers.
Online Student Registration: The student registration site is now open and available @ patentlawregistration.luc.edu/lawstudents/Default.aspx. Student registration will run through Monday, March 9th.
The student registration form is very simple. All students need to enter at this point is some basic contact, school, and class year information. Students at schools that are not paying the registration fee will also need a credit card to pay the $35 registration fee to complete their online registration.
Once students are registered, they will send you information about how to register @ Symplicity, upload your resume and transcript, and bid on interviews.
Program Materials: When employers register for the program, they have the option to request that students provide resumes only or resumes and law school transcripts when they place their bids for the program. The employers understand that, because of the program timeline, they will only receive first semester grades from first year students.
Registration Confirmation: Students will receive an email confirmation of their registration. Students who do not see this confirmation email in their inbox should check their junk mail folders. In past years we have had some trouble with important program emails being routed to junk mail, especially if a student is using a gmail or other non-school email address.

FIU LATIN AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN CENTER – FOREIGN LANGUAGE AND AREA STUDIES (FLAS) FELLOWSHIPS (SUMMER 2015 & 2015-2016 ACADEMIC YEAR) [DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 27, 2015]
The FLAS fellowship supports language training in Less-Commonly-Taught Languages (LCTLs), including Portuguese and Haitian Creole. The Summer Fellowship also includes the study of Quechua.
Who: Full-time, degree-seeking FIU graduate students in any discipline who are completing coursework related to Latin America may apply. FLAS Fellowship recipients are required to complete at least 1 Latin American and Caribbean-related area studies course and 1 Portuguese, Haitian Creole, or Quechua (Summer only) course each semester at FIU while holding the fellowship. Summer fellowships offer students the opportunity to participate in FLAS approved Summer Study Abroad programs.
Students in the professional schools (Business, Law, Medicine, Journalism, Social Work, Engineering, etc.) and those planning a career in U.S. government service are strongly encouraged to apply.

AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION (ACLU) OF FLORIDA – SUMMER 2015 LEGAL INTERNSHIP/EXTERNSHIP [DEADLINE: MARCH 2, 2015]
The ACLU Foundation of Florida (ACLU-FL) invites 2L law students to apply for a summer internship in one of their regional offices. This is an unpaid internship and students are strongly encouraged to seek funding from their law schools or other foundations to sustain them financially during summer.
*Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
Overview: The ACLU-FL, the state’s largest legal and public advocacy organization, is a not-for-profit, nonpartisan organization that employs litigation, public policy advocacy, public education and communications to protect and promote a broad range of constitutional issues and individual rights, such as freedom of speech, racial justice, right to privacy, religious liberty, criminal justice reform, voting rights, reproductive rights, LGBT rights, and immigrants’ rights. The ACLU-FL is an affiliate of the national ACLU, which implements its vital civil liberties mission in all 50 states in large part through affiliate entities such as the ACLU-FL. Operating out of four offices in Miami (main), Tampa, Pensacola and Jacksonville, the FL affiliate is among the larger ACLU affiliates in the nation.
The ACLU-FL litigates a broad range of complex constitutional cases in federal and state courts through direct representation, filing amicus briefs and submitting administrative complaints to state and federal agencies. ACLU interns work closely with staff attorneys and have the unique opportunity to research and apply constitutional law theories to real-world problems and gain a practical understanding of constitutional law issues.
The legal intern will be primarily responsible for:
- Conducting factual, legal and policy research
- Drafting pleadings, briefs and other litigation documents
- Researching prospects for new litigation, including factual and legal claims
- Assisting in the preparation of expert and lay witnesses for courtroom testimony

When: The internship requires a full-time commitment for a minimum of 10 weeks

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE – FALL 2015 STUDENT (UNPAID) INTERNSHIP PROGRAM [DEADLINE: MARCH 2, 2015]
This program offers U.S. citizen graduate students the opportunity to participate in 10-week, unpaid internships that provide intensive educational and professional experience within the environment of America’s principle foreign affairs agency.
The unpaid internships are available at many of the over 270 U.S. embassies, consulates and missions to international organizations around the world, as well as at the Department of State in Washington, D.C. and other locations throughout the U.S. Participants gain first-hand, hands-on experience, and learn the realities of working in and with Foreign and Civil Service professionals who are at the forefront of America’s diplomatic efforts.
As an unpaid intern, you may have the opportunity to:
- Participate in meetings with senior level U.S. government or foreign government officials;
- Draft, edit or contribute to cables, reports, communications, talking points or other materials used by policy makers in furthering U.S. foreign policy objectives;
- Help organize and support events, including international and/or multi-lateral meetings and conferences on critical global issues;
- Contribute to the management and administration of the Department of State and America’s foreign policy; and
- Engage directly with U.S. or foreign audiences to promote U.S. foreign policy and improve understanding of U.S. culture and society.
So consider spending your Fall 2015 with the U.S. Department of State, witnessing and participating in the formulation and implementation of U.S. foreign policy, working closely with the U.S. diplomats and civil servants who carry out America’s foreign policy initiatives. You’ll not only have an experience of a lifetime, you may even be able to earn educational credit.
