THE OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S CONSUMER PROTECTION/ECONOMIC CRIMES DIVISION – INTERNSHIP [DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 30, 2014]

The Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection/Economic Crimes Division seeks interns who are eager to work collaboratively on a team of attorneys and investigators to prosecute consumer fraud through agency investigations and civil litigation in Florida state courts.

Who: 2Ls and 3Ls (and LLM students)

Where: FTL, MIA, or WPB

When: Internships require a minimum of 20 hours per week

Requirements: All applicants selected for an interview will need to complete a background check

Skills: (1.) Academic success in law school, and (2.) strong research skills

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE – SUMMER 2015 INTERNSHIP PROGRAM [DEADLINE: OCTOBER 17, 2014]

The U.S. Department of State is now accepting applications for the 2015 Summer Student Internship Program (unpaid).

*Please note this is an earlier-than-usual deadline. We highly encourage you to complete and submit your application as soon as possible.

This program provides intensive educational and professional experience within the environment of America’s principle foreign affairs agency. The unpaid internships are available at many of the over 270 U.S. embassies, consulates and missions to international organizations around the world, as well as the Department of State in Washington, D.C. and other locations throughout the U.S. Participants gain first-hand, hands-on experience, and learn the realities of working in – and with – Foreign and Civil Service professionals who are at the forefront of America’s diplomatic efforts.

As an unpaid intern, you may have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in meetings with senior level U.S. government or foreign government officials;
  • Draft, edit, or contribute to cables, reports, communications, talking points, or other materials used by policy makers in furthering U.S. foreign policy objectives;
  • Help organize and support events, including international and/or multi-lateral meetings and conferences on critical global issues;
  • Contribute to the management and administration of the Department of State and America’s foreign policy; and
  • Engage directly with U.S. or foreign audiences to promote U.S. foreign policy and improve understanding of U.S. culture and society

ANIMAL LEGAL DEFENSE FUND (ALDF) – SUMMER 2015 CLERKSHIPS [DEADLINE: OCTOBER 17, 2014]

The ALDF is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the lives and advancing the interests of animals through the legal system. Since 1981, the ALDF has won precedent-setting victories that have expanded legal protections for companion animals, wildlife, animals in research labs, and those in factory farming situations.

The ALDF is hiring clerks for Summer 2015 and has clerkships available in its Litigation and Criminal Justice Programs.

*PLEASE NOTE: Students must apply for either the Criminal Justice Program Clerkship OR the Litigation Program Clerkship; applications submitted to both programs will not be considered.

Responsibilities will include legal research, working with ALDF’s litigation department in developing new cases, and assistance in preparation of pleadings in cases currently being handled by ALDF. The successful applicant must have a sincere interest in animal protection and be willing to accept a variety of assignments within the expanding field of animal law. The primary focus of this clerkship is on civil animal law issues, but there will be exposure to criminal anti-cruelty cases as well.

*There is a $6,000 stipend for the summer.

The primary focus of this clerkship is on criminal cases involving animal cruelty, but there will exposure to civil animal law issues as well.

THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF CONSUMER FINANCIAL SERVICES LAWYERS (ACCFSL) – ANNUAL WRITING COMPETITION [DEADLINE: DECEMBER 1, 2014]

Each year the ACCFSL seeks to recognize written contributions to the field of consumer financial services law. Eligible papers include publishable articles, substantial book reviews, or book chapters; books; and student case note or comment. In any year, depending on the quality of the submissions, awards may be made in all or some of these three categories.

Topic:

Eligible entries must discuss some aspect of consumer financial services law. Topics that relate principally to securities regulation, insurance, or the safety and soundness aspects of banking regulation are not eligible, but works on subjects within these (or other) areas will be considered if they bear directly on consumer financial services.

Submission guidelines:

  • Entries are eligible if they have been written or published within the 12 months preceding the deadline date of December 1st
  • Unpublished manuscripts should be double-spaced and conform to law review standards
  • All entries should be submitted in electronic format

One of the primary initiatives of this collaboration is the Corporate IP Institute® (CIPI), a two-day annual event.

CIPI, held since 2007, provides a singular forum for in-house IP professionals to discuss issues they face, exchange ideas, and network locally and nationally. The CIPI speakers come from corporations large and small, national and international organizations, academia and the bar.
